Essential oils for muscle pain

Nowadays, in our hectic everyday life, we forget to stop and just breathe and relax for a moment. This often results in muscle pain and fatigue. It can occur also due to a variety of reasons such as exercise, injury, stress, and even poor posture. There are various ways to manage muscle pain, including over-the-counter painkillers and physical therapy. Using essential oils can also be an effective way to alleviate muscle pain and promote relaxation. They can be inhaled, applied topically, or even ingested, depending on the type of oil and the intended use.

  • Peppermint Oil: Peppermint oil has a cooling effect and is known to relieve muscle pain and soreness. It is also effective for reducing inflammation and swelling.
  • Lavender Oil: Lavender oil is a versatile essential oil that can be used for a variety of purposes, including relieving muscle pain. It has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that can help reduce muscle soreness and tension.
  • Eucalyptus Oil: Eucalyptus oil has a warming effect and is known for its ability to reduce pain and inflammation. It can also help improve circulation and ease muscle tension.
  • Rosemary Oil: Rosemary oil has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce muscle pain and stiffness. It can also improve circulation and reduce swelling.
  • Ginger Oil: Ginger oil has warming and anti-inflammatory properties which help to relax the muscles and stiffness. It improves blood circulation.
  • Chamomile Oil: Chamomile oil has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that can help reduce muscle pain and tension. It is also known for its calming and relaxing effects, which can help ease stress-related muscle pain.
  • Majoram Oil: Marjoram oil has analgesic, antibacterial, and antispasmodic properties which is why it is used for soothing tired and stressed muscles.
  • Lemongrass Oil: Lemongrass oil has an anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effect which makes it a good choice for muscle, ligaments, and tendon issues.
  • Siberian Fir Oil: Siberian Fir oil helps soothe muscle pain and tension thanks to its analgesic and antiseptic properties.
  • Helichrysum Oil: With its antispasmodic and antibacterial qualities, the helichrysum oil promotes pain relief be it body or heart pain.

A combination of two or three of the above oils can give you better results in coping with the pain. Below you can find a few recipes for pain relief roll-ons.  

Roll on for muscle pain and stiffness:

12 drops of Peppermint essential oil;

10 drops of Lemongrass essential oil;

8 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil;

Put the essential oils in a 10 ml glass roll-on bottle and top up with carrier oil of your choice. Mix well and apply every 2-3 hours on the affected area.

Roll on for muscle inflammation:

5 drops of Helichrysum oil;

10 drops of Siberian fir oil;

10 drops of Lemongrass fir oil;

Mix the essential oils in a 10 ml glass roll-on bottle and top up the bottle with carrier oil of your choice. Apply as often as possible on the affected area.
