DIY whipped body butter
What better way to nourish your body than a body butter made at home? Adding essential oils of your choice would make it unique while addressing any skin problems. Below is a recipe I used many times and the result is always WOW.
Ingredients:
- 80 gr of coconut oil;
- 80 gr of cacao butter;
- 80 gr of shea butter;
- 80 ml of liquid carrier oil such as grapeseed, fractionated coconut oil, jojoba, almond, or any other you like;
- 10 drops Vitamin E to avoid the mixture to go rancid;
Essential oils you may add (optional):
- 5 drops Madagascar Vanilla;
- 5 drops Tea tree oil;
- 2 drops Clove oil;
- 5 drops Black spruce;
- 2 drops Cinnamon Bark oil;
- 7 drops Cedarwood oil;
The essential oils used in this recipe bring the Christmas spirit and would make a great and personalized gift for family and friends. But you may choose different ones. Let your intuition guide you.
Instructions:
- Begin by melting the solid shea, coconut, and cacao butter in a double boiler over low heat. If you don't have a double boiler, you can place a heatproof bowl on top of a saucepan filled with water. Make sure that the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl.
- Once the solid oils have melted, remove them from the heat and add in the liquid oil you have chosen to use.
- Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes then add the essential oils and the Vitamin E. Stir well to combine.
- Place the mixture in the fridge for 30-60 minutes, or until it begins to solidify.
- Once the mixture has solidified, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip it into a light and fluffy consistency. This may take several minutes, so be patient. It will become so fluffy you would wish to eat it.
- Once the mixture has been whipped, transfer it to a clean jar or container with a lid. Store the whipped body butter in a cool, dry place and use as needed.
That's it! You now have your very own DIY whipped body butter that's nourishing and moisturizing for your skin. You can experiment with different essential oil combinations to find the perfect scent for you. The butter can turn into lotion, with a lighter consistency and quicker absorption for the summer, if you add 20 ml of floral rose, lavender, or chamomile water. Once the mixture is whipped looking like mayo add the floral water and whip again until it is fully blended. You may try it on the skin and if it leaves the skin oily add a little bit more floral water.
Be creative, be inspired, and enjoy the process.
