With a few simple ingredients and the power of essential oils, you can create an effective, all-natural cleaner that’s safe for your family and the environment. This DIY multi-purpose cleaner is perfect for countertops, kitchen surfaces, bathrooms, and more.
Why Use Essential Oils in Your Cleaner?
Essential oils not only add a refreshing scent to your cleaning routine but also bring natural antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. Lemon oil is great for cutting through grease and grime, tea tree oil offers powerful disinfecting properties, and lavender provides a calming aroma while helping to combat bacteria.
Ingredients for DIY Multi-Purpose Cleaner
To make this simple yet effective cleaner, you’ll need some distilled water, white vinegar, and baking soda. Adding a combination of lemon, tea tree, and lavender essential oils enhances the cleaning power while leaving behind a pleasant, natural scent. Pour the mixture into a reusable spray bottle, and you’re ready to go!
How to Make Your DIY Cleaner
Start by mixing the white vinegar and baking soda in a bowl or measuring cup, expect a little fizzing! Then, add distilled water and stir gently. Once that’s done, drop in your chosen essential oils and give it another stir. Transfer the mixture into a reusable spray bottle and shake well before each use.
How to Use Your DIY Cleaner
This cleaner works wonderfully on kitchen counters, sinks, and bathroom tiles. Just spray it on the surface and wipe with a clean cloth for a fresh and natural shine. Keep in mind that vinegar-based cleaners aren’t suitable for natural stone surfaces like marble or granite, as they can cause damage.

DIY whipped body butter
What better way to nourish your body than a body butter made at home? Adding essential oils of your choice would make it unique while addressing any skin problems. Below is a recipe I used many times and the result is always WOW.
Ingredients:
- 80 gr of coconut oil;
- 80 gr of cacao butter;
- 80 gr of shea butter;
- 80 ml of liquid carrier oil such as grapeseed, fractionated coconut oil, jojoba, almond, or any other you like;
- 10 drops Vitamin E to avoid the mixture to go rancid;
Essential oils you may add (optional):
- 5 drops Madagascar Vanilla;
- 5 drops Tea tree oil;
- 2 drops Clove oil;
- 5 drops Black spruce;
- 2 drops Cinnamon Bark oil;
- 7 drops Cedarwood oil;
The essential oils used in this recipe bring the Christmas spirit and would make a great and personalized gift for family and friends. But you may choose different ones. Let your intuition guide you.
Instructions:
- Begin by melting the solid shea, coconut, and cacao butter in a double boiler over low heat. If you don't have a double boiler, you can place a heatproof bowl on top of a saucepan filled with water. Make sure that the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl.
- Once the solid oils have melted, remove them from the heat and add in the liquid oil you have chosen to use.
- Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes then add the essential oils and the Vitamin E. Stir well to combine.
- Place the mixture in the fridge for 30-60 minutes, or until it begins to solidify.
- Once the mixture has solidified, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip it into a light and fluffy consistency. This may take several minutes, so be patient. It will become so fluffy you would wish to eat it.
- Once the mixture has been whipped, transfer it to a clean jar or container with a lid. Store the whipped body butter in a cool, dry place and use as needed.
That's it! You now have your very own DIY whipped body butter that's nourishing and moisturizing for your skin. You can experiment with different essential oil combinations to find the perfect scent for you. The butter can turn into lotion, with a lighter consistency and quicker absorption for the summer, if you add 20 ml of floral rose, lavender, or chamomile water. Once the mixture is whipped looking like mayo add the floral water and whip again until it is fully blended. You may try it on the skin and if it leaves the skin oily add a little bit more floral water.
Be creative, be inspired, and enjoy the process.

DIY face serum for radiant skin
Having radiant and healthy-looking skin is something that we all strive for. While there are many skincare products available in the market, it is always better to create a natural, homemade product meeting your skin’s needs. Making your own face serum using a suitable base oil and adding essential oils can be a great way to nourish your skin without any harsh chemicals. In this blog, I will guide you through the process of making a DIY face serum for normal to oily skin. The good thing about making your own cosmetic is that you can alter the recipe according to your needs and likings. As a base, I used hempseed oil and camellia oil adding the following essential oils: Yarrow Pom, Geranium, Cedarwood, Lavender, Copaiba, Blue Tansy, and Palmarosa.
Hempseed oil is known for its anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties, its quick absorption, and its 0-comedogenic rating which makes it perfect for oily and acne-prone skin. It moisturizes the skin without clogging the pores, hydrating it and regulating the skin’s oil production. Hemp oil is suitable for most skin types.
Camellia seed oil (also known as tea seed oil) is light and gentle oil from the East used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. It has an anti-aging effect, absorbs quickly, nourishes, softens, and hydrates skin while improving its elasticity. It helps with hyperpigmentation and the reduction of redness and inflammation. It has a 1-comedogenic rating.
When it comes to essential oils, depending on the effect you wish to achieve, you may use the following or else substitute with a different oil that you have at home or like better.
- Yarrow Pom is a blend of yarrow essential oil and cold-pressed pomegranate seed oil. It is rich in antioxidants and helps to rejuvenate and soothe the skin.
- Geranium essential oil has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can help to calm and heal the skin. It is also great for regulating oil production.
- Cedarwood essential oil has astringent properties that help to tighten and firm the skin. It is also a great natural remedy for acne and other skin irritations.
- Lavender: Lavender essential oil is known for its calming properties and is great for soothing irritated skin. It is also a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from environmental impact.
- Copaiba: Copaiba essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties and can help to reduce redness and inflammation in the skin. It is also great for promoting healing and reducing scarring.
- Blue Tansy: Blue Tansy essential oil has a calming effect on the skin and is great for reducing inflammation and redness. It also helps the natural recovery process of the skin.
- Palmarosa: Palmarosa essential oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help to prevent and treat acne. It is also great for hydrating and balancing the skin.
